When our family decided to become involved with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu some years ago we took a page out of our old Kenpo Karate and Kickboxing play book and looked for the best Jiu Jitsu practitioners and teachers in the business.That meant only one thing: Gracie Jiu Jitsu.
After careful consideration my sons and I decided to approach 8th degree Black Belt and Gracie Jiu Jitsu master Pedro Sauer, a direct student of the Grand master and founder, Helio Gracie and his son Rickson Gracie. Master Sauer lives in Virginia having emigrated from Brazil and has been considered the finest technical instructor' in the world. He runs his own school in Virginia and heads an impressive group of schools in his own association.Our short 4 year collaboration with Master Sauer has produced major benefits for our own FMA schools with over 40 blue belts and 100+ practitioners in this amazing art.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It is a derivative of early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was Itself than a recently developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools ( or ryu) of Japanese jujitsu.
Like Judo, it promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a bigger stronger assailant using leverage and proper technique; applying joint-locks and choke holds to defeat them. BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments ( gi and no GI) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions. Sparring ( commonly referred to as rolling) and live drilling play a major roll in training, and a premium is placed on performance
